OptoFidelity Scroll Performance Analyzer (SPA) is the most easy to use tool for measuring UI animation performance. It enhances OptoFidelity WatchDog user interface testing environment, and has capability to analyze content transition smoothness directly from the display.
Measurement procedure is started by configuring the region of interest. Then you can start recording and make your gesture to launch UI animation. When transition is completed, an analysis of the recorded data can be started by pressing a button. OptoFidelity Scroll Performance Analyzer detects content transitions and calculates the content refreshing frame rate.
Benchmarking has never been this easy: you just place the new product under the camera and you are ready to reproduce the same test.

OptoFidelity Touch & Test enables completely non-intrusive robotized model-based testing of mobile device applications. There is no need to modify the device under test – the device is used as the end user would use it. All test cases are generated automatically from an application model and executed in a real device with an industrial robot. Because the most important interface for test execution is the touchscreen of the device, OptoFidelity Touch & Test can test any application on any mobile device with any platform (Windows Phone, Android, Symbian, iOS, , MeeGo, etc.).
For navigation in user interface and verification of results, OptoFidelity Touch & Test employs advanced object and text recognition methods. Changes in the appearance of graphical objects can easily be updated to existing tests with an adaptation tool, which can be used for teaching the new user interface components to be used in tests.
Using real handsets for testing has several advantages compared to simulators and emulators. As tests are run in a real environment, you can simultaneously test the device limitations, such as user interface latency times, battery life and power consumption.
Automating not only the test execution but also the test case generation, model-based testing is the new dimension in test automation. As all test cases are generated from an application model, there is no longer need to write hundreds of test cases, but you can generate new test cases automatically by using diverse parameters. A well-known state machine notation is used for modeling, so you can create and read models already after a short training. Software with graphical user interface is available for modeling.

There is now available a new feature for OptoFidelity WatchDog named OptoFidelity SPA. SPA stands for scroll performance analyzer. OptoFidelity SPA analyzes the smoothness and softness of the scrolling playback.
OptoFidelity SPA adds WatchDog products’s capability to analyze the performance of user interfaces. The operation of SPA is based on perceptual analysis from the display. All measurements are done by the camera of WatcDog. Spa is non-intrusive so there is not any need for extra installations or modifications to device under test.

The OptoFidelity WatchDog measurement device offers a revolutionary way to measure function timings directly from product's user interface. Software detects visual events automatically from the video captured during the actual operation of the product. The OptoFidelity WatchDog captures every event and saves a timestamped image into a measurement report that is generated automatically.
When you combine WatchDog with the Multimodal Unit, you can measure all sensory responses of the device: visual response, voice response and haptic response.
Watch the video about OptoFidelity WatchDog in action
OptoFidelity Watchdog can be used to measure for example following:
- User experienced quality (Quality of Experience)
- User interface performance
- Software or hardware functionality and timing in R&D
- Service functionality in a client device (for example mobile device web browser)
- Functional testing (latency time measurements)
- Competitor analysis

The competition by Nokia and Rovio of the Finnish championship of Angry Birds game has just been finished. In future there might be this kind of competitions also between humans and robots, at least if you ask OptoFidelity. We have put the robot technology into good use, and designed a system which plays Angry Birds automatically.
As OptoFidelity does a lot of work with touch panel testing and performance testing for mobile devices using video and optical measuring systems, it wasn’t hard to implement an application for this particular need. The most difficult part of the project was to play through all levels of Angry Birds. Thanks to the ready-made components that OptoFidelity already had, the robot controlling part was quite easy.
Until today there have been chess championships and quizzes between humans and robots. Since this application by OptoFidelity can be developed further, in future also games which are controlled with motions may be played against robots.

Optofidelity on the News today
The Aamulehti publishes a series on the situation of diverse industries. This time, the article was about engineering and featured OptoFidelity. Tampere Patent Office’s, Atostek’s, and Novaloc's representatives were also interviewed. All the companies are located in Tampere in the Hermia Technology Center.
Optofidelity Is Recruiting
- We are hiring the first non-engineer as marketing coordinator after the turn of the year and next year we also plan to increase our engineering power, says OptoFidelity’s CEO Pertti Aimonen.
Aimonen has noticed that some customers have reduced product development, some increased.
- We are humble, but confident. Top talent will not be idle, but searching for work will take more time.
- The general mood is gloomy, but we have landed two new client relationships with Finland's largest product developers this week. One of the deals is the largest in our company's history.
On Funding Decisions
- One has to find smart money that comes with contacts and know-how.
