The Challenges of Human Handwriting on a Touchscreen
Human handwriting, either with a finger or stylus on a touchscreen, is extremely challenging. Using a stylus on a touchscreen is challenging because the machine has to replicate what a human would do with a pen and paper. There are multiple challenges for the replication: variation of speed may be significant, and the style of handwriting varies a lot. The user may also have their palm or their hand on the screen, or the tilt of the pen may vary significantly per user. OptoFidelity has developed new testing solutions in cooperation with Atmel to overcome these challenges. The project started already in 2015 and the results look promising.
– “It has been great working with the OptoFidelity expert teams,” said Iqbal Sharif, Senior Director of Atmel Touch Division. “We have challenged the OptoFidelity team and their technology to replicate handwriting on a touchscreen, and it has been great to see the results that we have achieved together. We look forward to continuing this intensive cooperation with the OptoFidelity teams.”
– “This has been a great experience. We have been working in the industry long, but this was another new challenge for us to solve. We are proud to work with the industry leaders and deliver added value,” Ilmo Lounasmaa, VP of Test Robotics from OptoFidelity.
