Industry momentum observed at SPIE AR|MR|VR and Photonics West events, while Whitepaper details the possibility of volume manufacturing

Recently, OptoFidelity showcased its AR/MR Metrology innovations and gave presentations at the SPIE AR|MR|VR event in San Francisco.

From the level of new products and materials being showcased, it was clear that the AR/MR sector is experiencing forward momentum. New products included curved polymer displays, diffractive waveguides, and reflective waveguides – alongside advances in tools manufacturing. We’re confident that many suppliers are getting closer to a level of manufacturing at scale and volume.

In this marketplace, OptoFidelity’s robust testing equipment will further support suppliers in this evolution by making volume manufacturing a possibility. It was good to see all the different facets of the market coming together at the event. The level of investment in production capabilities is a positive sign. A few areas are experiencing growth based on the event we attended. Here are some observations:

  1. Materials and tool technologies are reaching the needed level to support productization.
  2. Reflective AR/XR waveguide technology companies are proceeding to production-level investments.
  3. Diffractive waveguide designs are also delivering a high degree of image quality.

Amongst the exciting developments in this area was the recent release of Apple’s Vision Pro glasses, which are currently undergoing benchmark testing by OptoFidelity’s BUDDY system. OptoFidelity will be releasing the results of these tests soon.

Apple Vision Pro clearly gives a boost to application creators. It’s great to see large companies like Apple getting into the space. It means that we can support all growing AR/XR display metrology for benchmarking with our BUDDY test system. This is true not only for Vision Pro, but its rivals as well.

In timing with the show, OptoFidelity released its latest whitepaper to explain how the company is setting industry standards with AR/XR Metrology testing. Download the paper for free here.

Look out for the results of our Apple Vision Pro test, coming soon.
