The last couple of years have been a time of strong global growth and recruitment for OptoFidelity, and we are continuing on the same path. In September we opened a subsidiary in China’s hotspot of Shenzhen as well as another facility in Redmond, USA.
Shenzhen will be our main facility in China, especially for sales and marketing. We will also have customer support facilities in Chengdu and Hong Kong. At the first phase, there will be five people working at OptoFidelity’s China offices. Redmond is a natural location for us in the US, since many of our potential customers, like Amazon, Microsoft and T-Mobile, have a main office near the technology center of Seattle.
OptoFidelity has already operated for years in both market areas
OptoFidelity started to operate in both China and the USA in 2012 with resellers.
“At the end of 2014 we concluded that the timing was right and our technology was ready for an international launch and visibility in the main global market areas. We decided to invest in a permanent presence in the world’s leading technology centers near our customers. These new premises are logical steps on that same path,” states CEO Pertti Aimonen.
Along with growth, another reason for the new premises is a demand for more intense cooperation with the customers.
China is already another big innovation hub, in addition to the USA. Chinese mobile technology companies are already surpassing many market leaders, and for example Alibaba is building a new competitor for Android. It’s only a matter of time before Chinese products will claim a significant market share in Western markets.
“Since there is a lot going on with Chinese technology and the mobile business, this is the right timing also for OptoFidelity,” summarizes Ilmo Lounasmaa, Director of OptoFidelity China Operations. However, in the future OptoFidelity’s main facilities and R&D will still be located in Tampere, Finland.
